About Us
Santa Faustina Homestay is a family-run program inspired by the former U.S. Peace Corp volunteers who stayed with Tarawa Island families in their family compounds. By participating in the daily life of the island of Tarawa locals, the volunteers had an unparalleled opportunity to learn not only about the daily life of the island’s inhabitants, but also about how international issues like global warming and international development directly affect small communities in the Pacific.
In an effort to continue that line of interaction and communication, Santa Faustina Homestay has opened its doors to travellers who seek local interaction and who have a willingness to learn about the rich local culture and the challenges it faces. The opportunity for cultural exchange goes both ways, as the local families are eager to learn about other cultures while simultaneously sharing their own.
Booking a stay at Santa Faustina Homestay also supports economic sustainability on the island, providing the family a viable option to support themselves and a chance to invest in the community.
